Dust is an Interactive Fiction game. You enter commands with your keyboard (LOOK, GO DOWN, GET LAMP, TALK TO WOMAN...) and your character will try to follow them. You can play it online for free or download it – just give it a try!
The game can be saved and restored by entering SAVE and RESTORE. The INFO command in the game provides further useful information.
If you get stuck, you can type HINT in the game or take a look at some more subtle hints that don't directly reveal the solution. If that doesn't help, you may also take a look at the walkthrough. If you're not worried about spoliers, there is also a small map, and the flowchart shows how all the puzzles and dialogue are connected.
If you prefer to play offline, you may of course download the game. If you are only interested in the story, you can also read the game as a PDF transcript just like a (thin) book.
